# **Overview**
M3OTA is an application that makes it easy to perform over-the-air (OTA) updates. Users can check the app for new OS versions and perform updates with minimal interaction. OTA updates are available in two ways: Local Update and Remote Update.

## **Check Device OS Version**
You can check the current OS version of the device on the main screen.
**CHECK FOR UPDATE**: Select [CHECK FOR UPDATE] to check for a new OS version and proceed with the system update.`

## **OTA Update Settings**
The following option menu is available on the main screen.
### **Local Update**
Select an OTA file saved on the device and proceed with the update. For details, refer to the **[’Local Update' section](https://m3-mobile.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/M3APPMANUAL/pages/83132417/M3+OTA#2.-Local-Update)** below.
### **Server setting (EU/KR)**
Set the OTA server address used for Remote Update. You can select either the EU or KR server.
The server address is set by default, so users do not normally need to change it. If necessary, select the EU or KR server according to the operating environment.
### **OTA notification**
|  | - When `OTA notifications` is enabled, the device can receive OTA update notifications that match the current device model and Android version.
When the server sends a notification for a new OTA update applicable to the device, a push notification is displayed.
- When the user selects the push notification, the M3 OTA app opens. The user can then check Remote Update and proceed with the update.
- When `OTA notifications` is disabled, the device does not receive OTA push notifications even if a new OTA update is available. |

### **Full OTA update**
Set whether to use a Full OTA file when checking Remote Update. If this option is disabled, the app checks update files based on lightweight OTA.
- **Lightweight OTA update**
A lightweight OTA file contains only the changes required to update the device from the currently installed OS version to the next version. The file size is relatively small, and the download time may be shorter.
However, it can only be used from a specified previous version. Make sure to use the file that matches the current device version.
- **Full OTA update**
A Full OTA file contains the full set of files required for the OS update.
The file size is relatively large, and the download time may be longer. However, it can be used even when no lightweight OTA file is available for the current device version.
> ℹ️ By default, the app is set to use lightweight OTA updates.
### **Auto Reboot**
When Auto Reboot is enabled, the device automatically reboots after the OTA installation is completed.
When Auto Reboot is disabled, the device does not reboot automatically after the OTA installation is completed. In this case, the user must manually reboot the device from the reboot confirmation screen to complete the update.

# **How to update OTA**
## **1. Remote Update**
Remote Update downloads the OTA file from a remote server and proceeds with the system update.

> A lightweight OTA file can only be selected when it can be installed directly from the current device version.

> For example, if the device must first update from `1.0.7 -> 1.0.8`, the `1.0.8 -> 1.0.9` update item may be displayed as unavailable. In this case, complete the previous update step first.

> Select an OTA File and proceed with the download.

## **2. Local Update**

## **3. OTA Update Using ADB Commands**
You can run an OTA update using an ADB broadcast command.
### Update Using a File URL
Pass the download URL of the OTA zip file uploaded to the server. The device downloads the OTA zip file from the specified file URL and then proceeds with the update.

```
Exampmle:
```shell
adb shell am broadcast -a com.android.server.startupservice.system -p com.m3.startup --es setting ota_url --es value "http://dn.m3mobile.net/OS/OTA/M3SM24/OTA_FILE/V1.1.0-V1.1.3_incremental_ota_update.zip"
```
Enter the full download URL of the OTA zip file uploaded to the server in . The device downloads the OTA file based on the file name at the end of the URL.

### Update Using a Local Path
If the OTA zip file is available in a local location accessible from the device or working environment, save the OTA file to the `/sdcard/Download/` path on the device and run the update.

```
Example:
```shell
adb shell am broadcast -a com.m3.intent.action.UPDATE_PACKAGES -p com.m3.m3ota --es file_name "M3SM24_V1.1.3_user-ota"
```
